Yubari Shuparo Dam: "Sunken Town Walk"
Japanese name:夕張・シューパロダム「沈んだ街あるき」
📅 Sat, Sep 12, 2026
About this event
This is an event where you can stroll through the former Kashima district, which was submerged due to the construction of the Shuparo Dam. It is held annually around August to early September when the dam's water level drops. A town of 20,000 residents once existed here, and visitors can enjoy landscapes that can only be seen now when the water level is low. In 2026 (Reiwa 8), it will be held on Saturday, September 12, from 10:00 to 15:00 (closing at 16:00). The event will proceed rain or shine (canceled in stormy weather), and no reservation is required. Information signs for the entrance/exit and parking lot will be set up along Route 452 on the way toward Mikasa City. "Free Driftwood Distribution" will also take place on the same day.
