About this event
A trail running event held concurrently with the Sumatakyo Onsen Festival in Kawanehon Town, located at the southernmost tip of the Southern Alps. This event aims to let people experience the rich natural environment and culture of Kawanehon Town, and strives to serve not merely as a trail running event, but as an opportunity to promote the conservation and utilization of the natural environment together with the local community. The course is a Sawaguchiyama loop route surrounded by the Sumata Three Mountains (Asahidake, Maekurogoshidake, and Sawaguchiyama), offering a rewarding climb with a distance of approximately 9 kilometers and a cumulative elevation gain of about 1,000 meters. The outbound trip goes from the Hinatayama course to the summit, and the return trip is a loop route descending the Sarunamidaira course. A steep climb through a planted forest continues up to the ridgeline, but from the ridgeline to the summit proceeds through a quiet broadleaf forest. No timekeeping is conducted at this event, and a completion certificate will be presented after the finish. On the day of the event, held during the peak autumn foliage season of the Sumatakyo Onsen district, participants can also join the onsen town marche and bar time (social gathering). Participants will receive a 1,000 yen marche voucher and a Sumatakyo Onsen day-trip bath ticket. In addition, ahead of the event, recruitment for mountain trail maintenance volunteers will also be conducted.
