Where Do Okazaki's Dragonflies Go!? Globe Skimmer Dragonfly Survey

About this event

This event investigates the migration journeys of globe skimmers (Pantala flavescens / usubakitombo), dragonflies known to travel long distances across oceans, by catching and marking them. Students from the STEAM Club of Aichi Prefectural Okazaki High School will assist with the investigation. This marking survey method for tracking globe skimmer behavior was featured on the TV program 'Darwin's Amazing Animals' (Darwin ga Kita!), offering a rare opportunity to learn directly from the teacher who devised and practices this research. Participants will unravel where these yellowish red dragonflies, commonly seen during summer, come from and where they go. Capacity is 60 participants; a lottery will be held if applicants exceed capacity. Participation is free. Participants need to bring an insect net (rentals available), insect cage, and drinks. In case of rain, the event may be postponed to the following day.
