The 71st Korankei Maple Festival

Japanese name:第71回 香嵐渓もみじまつり

📅 Sun, Nov 1, 2026 - Mon, Nov 30, 2026

About this event

The autumn leaves of Korankei are said to have begun about 400 years ago when Priest Sanei, the 11th head of Kojaku-ji Temple, planted them, and for a long time they were called "the maple trees of Kojaku-ji". Named "Korankei" in 1930, the "Korankei Maple Festival", which was first held in 1950 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the town organization, marks its 71st edition this year. Every year in November, when approximately 3,000 maple trees turn vibrant colors, this festival takes place. During the event period, Mount Iimori is illuminated from sunset until 21:00, creating a fantastical night view with the contrast between the mountain dyed in golden hues, the red Taigetsu Bridge, and the light reflected on the Tomoe River. At the opening ceremony, in addition to a visit by the Toyota Tourism PR Ambassador and a Sanshu Asuke Taiko drum performance, visitors can enjoy various events such as monkey performance shows, an Otani High School dance performance, a parade by the Toyota City Junior Marching Band, and a nostalgic chindon marching band parade. Furthermore, you can experience a serene and solemn atmosphere with the bamboo lanterns at Kojaku-ji Temple and wish-making candles. In the townscape of Asuke, an Important Preservation District stamp rally will also be held, allowing you to stroll while feeling the history.
