About this event
Handed down in Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture, the Owari Yokosuka Festival is a traditional festival where five dashi floats constructed in the Edo period are pulled through the streets, demonstrating dynamic turning maneuvers known as 'donten'. Karakuri mechanical puppets and elaborate float carvings are also highlights, with the 'Dai-Donten' performed on the evening of the second day (Honraku) being the festival's biggest attraction. There are 5 floats across 4 neighborhood groups: Honmachi-gumi, Kitamachi-gumi, Kotsu-gumi (Entsu-sha and Hakko-sha), and Daimon-gumi, all designated as Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Tokai City. The festival is held over two days annually on the fourth Sunday of September and the preceding Saturday as the annual festival of Atago Shrine.
