About this event

A traditional river festival dating back to the Edo period, the "Kagurabune Festival" is held in conjunction with the Harvest Moon. The Kagurabune boat, measuring approximately 10 meters in length and 15 meters in height, is illuminated with 108 lanterns and makes round trips along the approximately 500-meter stretch between Utsumi Bridge and Chitose Bridge. The lantern lights swaying on the river surface create a fantastical sight that captivates visitors. The Utsumi and Nishibata districts historically flourished with sengokubune merchant ships during the Edo period, and this festival is said to have begun as a prayer for the prosperity of maritime shipping and safe navigation. It is an event bustling with many spectators where you can enjoy a scene resembling a magical historical picture scroll.
