About this event
The Onbe Dai Dedication Festival is a traditional festival with over 1,000 years of history, held every year on October 12 on Shinojima Island in Minamichita Town, Aichi Prefecture. It is a Shinto ritual in which salted sea bream (tai) is dedicated to Ise Jingu, and since 1998, it has been held at Shinojima Fishing Port as an island-wide event to preserve this tradition. On the day of the festival, the onbe sea bream prepared according to ancient customs is transported from the dried sea bream preparation facility on Nakatejima Island to Shinojima Port, and after solemn prayers, the dedication boat departs for Jinja Port of Ise Jingu. Lively events such as rice cake tossing (mochimaki) and lotteries are also held on the island, bustling with many people. The high historical and cultural value of this festival is also evident from the designation of Shinojima's preparation of dried sea bream offerings as a National Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
