About this event

In Horokanai Town, Hokkaido, which boasts Japan's largest buckwheat cultivation area and production volume, the Horokanai Town New Soba Festival will be held with town residents united to promote local revitalization and local industry. It is a high-profile event that attracts 40,000 visitors every year to a small town with a population of 1,300. The highlight is the 'National Local Soba Pride Plaza' where soba from all over the country gathers, with past stalls including local Horokanai Town, Echizen Town in Fukui Prefecture, former Yamato Town in Fukushima Prefecture, and former Kanasago Town in Ibaraki Prefecture. Soba-making masters from across the nation gather in town to demonstrate their skills. The soba flour used in the event is carefully selected domestic soba flour, and local shops offer freshly harvested Horokanai new soba. In addition, a variety of events will take place to fully enjoy Japan's top soba town, such as the Zenmenkyo Amateur Soba-Making Dan Certification Tournament, the National Women's Soba-Making Master Tournament, the Hokkaido Amateur Soba-Making Master Tournament, the Soba Village Horokanai Photo Contest, and soba-making workshops.
