About this event

Held at Mie Prefecture Gokoku Shrine, the "Kangetsu-sai" (Moon Viewing Festival) is a Shinto ritual that appreciates the moon and gives thanks for nature's blessings during the season when the moon is considered most beautiful. Prayers are offered for local tranquility and future peace. Following the ritual ceremony in the main hall, visitors can enjoy moon viewing while listening to Gagaku (traditional Japanese court music) performances. It is an event that even first-time listeners and viewers of Gagaku can easily attend. Advance registration is required, with a capacity of 40 participants (advance registration, first-come, first-served). The participation fee is 500 yen (free for junior high school students and younger), payable on the day of the event. Supporting association members can attend for free. The event will be held rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the event of storm warnings or severe weather.
