About this event
A traditional festival held annually on the second Sunday of October in Kinomotocho, Kumano City, Mie Prefecture. Diverse floats are brought out from various districts of Kinomotocho, and a portable shrine carrying the sacred object known as the Abare Mikoshi parades through the town. Key highlights of the festival include the Abare Mikoshi, which weighs approximately 1 ton in total, and the Roppo Procession, where young people adorned with white, red, and blue makeup perform dynamically with spirited chants. During the Yoimiya-sai (eve festival), a procession featuring Inari floats (Danjiri), children's mikoshi, and Motomiya Taiko heads toward the shrine. On the day of the annual festival, the mikoshi, Roppo Procession, Yoiya, children's mikoshi, and Motomiya Taiko parade sequentially through the town starting in the morning. At night, the mikoshi departs from the Otobisho (resting point) for the Hama-katsugi (beach carrying), and the heat and excitement of the festival continue until late at night. Designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Kumano City, this attractive event allows visitors to experience local tradition and passion.
