About this event
Held in Iga City, Mie Prefecture, the "Tejikara Shrine Annual Festival Dedication Fireworks Display" is a traditional fireworks event featuring about 250 fireworks launched into the sky. It is said that this festival began when Nagato-no-kami, who was skilled in fire ninjutsu such as pyrotechnics, fire tubes, and signal flares, dedicated fireworks. Historically, until around the end of the Taisho era, the young men of the village who were shrine parishioners made everything by hand, but today the fireworks are dedicated by professional pyrotechnicians. Known as the latest dedication fireworks display held in the Iga region, the shrine grounds are lined with food stalls and bustling with many visitors. Tejikara Shrine is said to have been consecrated from the inner shrine of Togakushi Shrine about 730 years ago, and its enshrined deity, "Ame-no-Tajikarao-no-Mikoto," is worshipped as a deity of great strength. In addition, the main hall houses a bell rope said to be the heaviest in Japan (weighing about 2 tons), offered with prayers since the Edo period, making it a very rare sight. Held at Tejikara Shrine, affectionately known to locals as "Yubune no Tejikara-san," this fireworks event allows visitors to experience deep history and tradition.
