About this event
Held on August 31, which marks the 210th day from the beginning of spring (risshun), the "Oya Fujin Festival" is a traditional festival to calm wind disasters such as typhoons and pray for a bountiful harvest. Said to have originated during the Horeki era 260 years ago, it is celebrated with particular vibrancy among the village's festival events. Each household sets up dengaku lanterns at their entrance gate, and mounds of sand are placed along the path where the portable shrine (mikoshi) passes. Fireworks color the night sky, and the sight of distinctive festival floats created by each part of the Oya district parading through the area is truly spectacular.
