About this event
Aiming for a sustainable society, Recycle Center Kido is reopening as 'Kido Sustaina Plaza.' In addition to its previous '3R Classes' and 'Reuse Corner,' the facility has evolved into a place to learn about a circular society through exhibitions and woodworking classes, focusing on timber as a familiar circular resource. To commemorate the renewal, an opening event will be held. Various activities are scheduled, including a lecture by Living National Treasure Sadaji Miyamoto and hands-on corners for parents and children. In the special lecture, Mr. Sadaji Miyamoto, a resident of Otsu City and holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property for 'Woodworking Art,' will deliver a speech titled 'Woodworking Art and Lake Biwa: The Charm of Wood.' The emcee will be Announcer Ayako Kurokawa of Biwako Broadcasting. Event details include an opening ceremony (tape cutting), an opening commemorative exhibition featuring 'wood shaving art' created by local children's club members, and workshop/hands-on booths such as aroma sachet making, a wood shaving pool (target age: 3 years old to 2nd grade of elementary school), wooden uchiwa fan making, playing with wooden toys, and DIY eco-bag making. In addition, recycled compost distribution and raw log distribution for those interested (prior application required) will take place. A children's goods reuse lottery will also be held featuring reused items. Furthermore, the Ryukoku University booth offers an introduction to the Faculty of Environmental Sustainability opening in April 2027 (Reiwa 9) and fun science experiments. There will also be 3R artwork displays and panel exhibitions on resource circulation.
