The 'Hachiman-bori Festival - Townscape and Lights', held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Omihachiman City, Shiga Prefecture, is an event celebrating its 29th edition organized by the Omihachiman Tourism and Association. Approximately 4,000 lights will be lit around Hachiman-bori Canal, allowing visitors to enjoy a mystical night view. Displays of bamboo lanterns, visitor commemorative objects, and design packs made by children will also be held. On the day, various projects will be carried out throughout the day, including a bamboo lantern workshop, an original design stamp rally, markets such as Omihachiman All Stars and Children's Marche, sightseeing kamishibai (paper theater) by the Tourism Volunteer Guide Association, and a toy ride-on forklift experience. In addition, nighttime operation of the Hachimanyama Ropeway will be conducted, allowing visitors to enjoy the 'Night View of Omihachiman' (Hachiman-dollar night view) from the summit. Historic buildings around Hachiman-bori Canal such as the Former Ban Family Residence, Kawara Museum, Okumura Family Residence, and Noma Seiroku Residence will also have special nighttime openings and public viewings, enlivening the event.
