About this event

Join nature professionals for a special 3-day, 2-night nature experience program at Lake Biwa and the forest. In this program, children are offered opportunities to learn about Lake Biwa's fisheries from fishermen, walk through headwater forests, and observe spring water and people's daily lives. By experiencing the authentic outdoors, these three days provide an opportunity to deeply reflect through firsthand experience on the question, 'How are nature and our lives connected?' Set in the Kosei and Kutsuki areas of Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, participants trace the cycle of water's blessings, where rain falling on mountains is stored in forests, flows into Lake Biwa as rivers, nurtures countless living creatures, and supports human life. In this region where satoyama culture thrives, learning in a place where people and nature coexist by harnessing the blessings of nature nurtures children's curiosity and provides a spark to think about the future of the Earth. The program includes learning about Lake Biwa's wildlife and fisheries, guided tours observing spring water and local lifestyle, nature observation in 'Kutsuki Forest,' and workshops considering the connections between forests, rivers, lakes, and our daily lives.
