Gion Kobu "Onshukai"

About this event

"Onshukai" is a performance where the geiko and maiko of Gion Kobu present the achievements of their daily training. It began as an "osaraikai" (review recital) where they performed traditional dances of the Inoue school of Kyomai before masters, senior performers, and the general public to receive evaluations. Today, it is widely cherished as an autumn tradition in Kyoto, allowing guests to enjoy traditional dances of the Inoue school of Kyomai—passed down since the Edo period—with different programs presented each day. The stage, woven together by the refined grace of the geiko and maiko along with traditional music played on shamisen, flute, and vocals, brings elegance and color to Kyoto's autumn.
