📍 Fukuchiyama, Kyoto
About this event
The Fukuchiyama Dokkoise Festival is a summer tradition of Fukuchiyama, said to have originated when Akechi Mitsuhide built Fukuchiyama Castle and the local domain residents danced with hand and foot gestures while singing 'Dokkoise, Dokkoise' as they transported stone and timber. Please note that the event schedule has been changed for 2026 (Reiwa 8). Events such as student competitions and placard contests are held daily. From dance masters to beginners and those who do not know how to dance at all, anyone can join the dancing circle and enjoy dancing around the yagura tower. The venues are the entire Hirokoji Street area in Fukuchiyama City and Fukuchiyama Station North Exit Park. A children's competition and grand dance are scheduled for Friday, August 14, while a citizens' grand dance contest and Japanese taiko drumming performance by Shukutoku High School are scheduled for Tuesday, August 25.
