About this event
The Nagaoka Tenmangu Annual Festival is the most important grand festival throughout the entire year. At the annual festival, Shubatsu (purification ritual) is performed first to purify, followed by Shinto rituals such as the recitation of Norito (Shinto prayers). Naorai (ceremonial feast) is held after the Shinto rituals conclude. This festival is held annually on October 9 at Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine, where sacred rituals are performed at Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine dedicated to Lord Sugawara no Michizane, who is known as the deity of learning, academic exams, and arts and culture. The annual festival is particularly emphasized among the shrine's annual events and is known for the solemn Shinto rituals conducted by Shinto priests.
