Sewing the Town 2026 in Ine / Otokirakudan - Listening to the Loom Fairy 2026

About this event

"Sewing the Town 2026 in Ine" is a participatory workshop where participants stroll through Ine Town and express the town shapes captured in photographs using Tango cloth and thread. Walking through the town where the textile industry flourished during the 1950s and 1960s (Showa 30s and 40s), participants sew the "shapes of the town" they discover using fabric and thread. Touring the Tango Peninsula by bus and feeling the nature that has watched over the textile culture, participants enjoy the experience of "Sewing the Town" in Ine. Conceived by artist Yoshinari Nishio, this workshop combines local town walking with textile art utilizing leftover fabric scraps. Meanwhile, "Otokirakudan - Listening to the Loom Fairy 2026" explores sound using weaving tools as musical instruments. With Tango-based sound artist Akio Suzuki serving as the bandmaster, there will be a workshop titled "Hataoto Saguri 2026" to explore one's own sounds while listening carefully to the sounds of weaving tools, and a performance titled "Hataoto Asobi 2026" to present the results. The performance is free to view.
