About this event
The 72nd Sakai City Chrysanthemum Exhibition, heralding the arrival of autumn in Sakai City, will be held. This event began in 1953 (Showa 28) to commemorate the reopening of the Ohama Aquarium, and has since been held annually from early to late November at the Daisen Park Japanese Garden. Aiming to raise citizens' interest in flowers through chrysanthemums, contribute to emotional education, and promote urban greening, an exhibition of Ogiku (large chrysanthemums), Kogiku bonsai (small chrysanthemum bonsai), and cut flowers is held to improve, enhance, and popularize chrysanthemum horticulture. A variety of colorful, beautiful chrysanthemums, including Ogiku and Fukusuke cultivated with great care by members of the Naniwa Chrysanthemum Association, will be entered and displayed. Highlights scheduled to be exhibited include the 12-Pot Ogiku Flower Bed using red, white, and yellow chrysanthemums arranged in 4 rows of 3 pots, the 5-Pot Fukusuke Flower Bed displaying 5 pots of chrysanthemums grown to a height under 50 centimeters, as well as the Mini Bonsai Flower Bed styled like bonsai with moss laid on the pot soil surface and roots entwined around rocks or wood.
