About this event
The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival's October celebration began in the mid-Edo period and boasts more than 300 years of history and tradition. Handed down continuously through generations of local residents born and raised in this area, the festival presents delicate yet dynamic danjiri float pulling during the day, and a magnificent appearance decorated with beautiful lanterns at night. Taking place in an atmospheric town retaining vestiges of a castle town, uniquely characterized danjiri floats dash through the city across various districts including Higashi-Kishiwada, Minami-Kamyo, Yagi, Yamanao, Yamanao-Minami, and Yamataki. In particular, the 'Yarimawashi' (high-speed corner turns) in front of JR Higashi-Kishiwada Station, JR Shimomatsu Station, and JR Kumeda Station are among the major highlights. Visitors can also enjoy district-specific traditional rituals, such as the 'Gyoki-mairi' pilgrimage to Kumeda-dera Temple and the portable shrine procession to Tsumihiko Shrine. The sight of danjiri rushing through the distinctive mountainous landscape alongside participants clad in happi coats offers magnificent photo opportunities. Skillful danjiri handling through narrow alleys and the glow of lanterns floating in the dark night further enhance the festival's charm.
