About this event
With the arrival of autumn, the Tondabayashi Autumn Festival (Danjiri Festival) is held in Tondabayashi City. This festival carries on traditional culture rooted in the community and plays an important role as part of town revitalization. Over the weekends of the second and third weeks of October, danjiri floats from various districts parade through the neighborhoods, bringing excitement to the festival. Particularly on the third weekend of October, danjiri festivals are held in many districts including Kishi, Otomo, Ishikawa, Itamochi, Sabi, and Take Mikumari districts. The danjiri floats of each district make ceremonial visits (Miyairi) to local guardian shrines such as Miko Mikumari Shrine, Otomo Kuronushi Shrine, Ichisuka Shrine, Itamochi Shrine, Sabi Shrine, and Take Mikumari Shrine to pray for bountiful harvests, good health, and safety from disease. The detailed schedule and contents of the festival are operated by the danjiri preservation societies and youth associations of each district, conveying the heat and vitality of the festival not only to local residents but also to visitors. The powerful pulling of the danjiri floats and the sound of drums echoing through the area move visitors and are cherished as an autumn tradition of Tondabayashi City.
