About this event

In commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the construction of Sumoto Castle, a special exhibition titled "500-Year History of Sumoto Castle" will be held at the Sumoto City Awaji Cultural History Museum. This exhibition comprehensively introduces the history of Sumoto Castle—from its origins as the stronghold of the Awaji Navy to its transformation into an impregnable fortress serving as a crucial western bulwark protecting the Osaka Castle of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the ruler of Japan—through precious historical materials of successive castle lords and roof tiles unearthed during archaeological excavations. Please take this opportunity to experience the 500-year history of Sumoto Castle, whose stone walls stretching across the mountain continue to fascinate visitors. During the exhibition period, commemorative lectures, stamp rallies in collaboration with related facilities, and commemorative merchandise sales are also planned, allowing visitors to enjoy the diverse charms of Sumoto Castle.
