33rd Abashiri Shichifukujin Festival
Japanese name:第33回あばしり七福神まつり
📅 Sat, Sep 5, 2026 - Sun, Sep 6, 2026
About this event
From Saturday, September 5 to Sunday, September 6, 2026, the "33rd Abashiri Shichifukujin Festival" will be held along the Abashiri Chuo Shopping Arcade (Apt 4 = 4-jo Dori) in Abashiri, Hokkaido. Hosted by the Abashiri Chuo Shopping Arcade Promotion Association, this is a comprehensive, citizen-participation event bringing together local specialties as well as products and delicacies from all over the country. Amid the early autumn breeze, the "Shichifukujin Treasure Ship Parade," with citizens dressed in costume, will parade from Higashi 2-chome to Nishi 3 Plaza. At the venue, the popular "Gourmet Food Fair," concerts, and stage events will be held, along with the All-Hokkaido Antique Market, All-Hokkaido Food Truck Fair, and All-Hokkaido Pottery Fair. Nationwide gourmet food fairs will also take place in Nishi 1-chome and 2-chome, buzzing with many visitors. This festival was revived by combining the prewar Abashiri pilgrimage tradition to the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin) with events expressing gratitude for Abashiri's rich nature. The prewar Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage involved visiting shrines dedicated to the Seven Lucky Gods erected by local volunteers in Abashiri City, but it was suspended during the war and forgotten. It was revived in 1994 (Heisei 6) as the present "Abashiri Shichifukujin Festival" and serves as a venue for regional revitalization and tourism promotion.
