About this event
Held on the shores of Lake Notoro in Ubaranai, Abashiri City, the '61st Lake Notoro Glasswort Festival' is a festival where visitors can enjoy breathtaking scenery symbolizing Hokkaido's short autumn as vast colonies of Akkeshiso (commonly known as glasswort or sangoso), which grow in saline wetlands, turn crimson. Held over two days, it features events such as singing and dancing. An annual scallop quick-shucking contest and a game guessing vegetable weights will also be held. At the venue, a paid grill corner will be set up where you can savor Okhotsk delicacies such as freshly harvested scallops and whelks from Lake Notoro. With live artist performances, Yosakoi Soran dance stage shows, food trucks, food tents, a bounce dome, and a mini steam train, you can fully enjoy the autumn of Abashiri through both taste and sight. Admission is free.
