About this event
The special exhibition "Dawn of the Kawai District - From Primeval and Ancient Times to the Middle Ages" held at Ono City Kokokan Museum introduces the rich history of the Kawai district in Ono City through historical materials and photographs. Kokokan Museum investigates the six districts in Ono City in turn and presents the results in special exhibitions, focusing on the Kawai district this fiscal year. As the inaugural year, this exhibition covers the history and culture of the Kawai district from primeval and ancient times to the medieval period, presenting the results of past archaeological excavations and ancient document research in an accessible manner. Highlights include findings suggesting that the Ao Mitsuzuka No. 1 Kofun may be a keyhole-shaped tumulus with a square rear (zenpo-koho-fun) from the early 3rd century, as well as the first confirmation of haniwa (clay terracotta figures) at Otsukayama No. 6 Kofun, indicating its construction in the early Kofun period (3rd to 4th centuries). Related events will also include a lecture titled "Deciphering the Medieval History of Kawai from Historical Records" and a tour titled "Touring Medieval Castles and Fortified Residences of the Kawai District."
