About this event
The '19th Three Great Myths Kagura Festival' will be held at Izanagi Jingu Shrine on Awaji Island. This festival is a valuable opportunity where Takachiho Night Kagura conveying the Hyuga myth, Izumo Kagura conveying the Izumo myth, and Awaji Kuniumi Sosei Kagura based on the Awaji Island creation myth come together under one roof to perform the essence of Japan's three great myths. On a special stage erected within the grounds of Izanagi Jingu Shrine, visitors can fully enjoy the mythological world in a magical atmosphere. On the day, Japanese drum performances of local traditional performing art 'Kuniumi Daiko' and local Awaji Kagura will also be presented. Kagura dances will be dedicated in the order of Izumo Kagura, Awaji Kuniumi Sosei Kagura, and Takachiho Night Kagura, mesmerizing visitors. In addition, during the festival, there will be a specialty market selling local products from places associated with the creation myth such as Takachiho and Izumo, as well as a food corner featuring gourmet foods made with select ingredients from Awaji Island. Furthermore, the 'Awaji Traditional Performing Arts Festival' will be held on the previous day, where visitors can enjoy a variety of traditional performing arts such as martial sword arts, Gion Bayashi music, lion dances, Japanese drumming, and hula. This festival aims to transmit traditional culture with Awaji Island as the island of the creation myth, marking its 19th edition this year. It is a rare opportunity to experience kagura performances from various regions all at once, which is normally hard to see.
