About this event
A special unveiling of the principal image Yakushi Nyorai and a special viewing of the inner sanctuary (naijin) of the National Treasure Octagonal Round Hall (Hakkakuendo) will be held at Eisan-ji Temple in Gojo City, Nara Prefecture. Eisan-ji is a historic temple founded in 719 by Fujiwara no Muchimaro. The main hall, rebuilt in the Muromachi period, enshrines a seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai, an Important Cultural Property. To the right of the main hall stands the National Treasure Octagonal Round Hall, a precious architectural remnant of the Tenpyo era comparable to the Yumedono of Horyu-ji Temple. This Octagonal Round Hall is said to have been erected by Muchimaro's son, Nakamaro, as a memorial service for his parents, and richly colored Buddhist paintings remain on the pillars and canopy of the inner sanctuary. This special viewing is a rare opportunity to closely observe the inner sanctuary of the Octagonal Round Hall, which is normally not open to the public. In addition, the principal image Yakushi Nyorai can also be viewed specially. Please take this opportunity to enjoy a special experience connecting with history and art.
