About this event
Held in Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture, the "30th Takayama Bamboo Lantern Festival" (Takayama Takeakari) is an event that creates a profound, ethereal landscape on autumn evenings in Takayama, the village of bamboo craftsmanship. At the venue, bamboo sculptures and lanterns are illuminated by candlelight, allowing visitors to enjoy a magical atmosphere. During the event, collaborative performances featuring the shakuhachi with traditional domestic and international instruments as well as shinobue (bamboo flute) concerts will be held, enlivening the venue with music. In addition, the Nara Prefecture Takayama Tea Whisk Producers Cooperative will offer Ryakubon-cha (simplified tray tea service) and live demonstrations of crafting Takayama tea whisks, providing an opportunity to experience traditional crafts. Furthermore, workshops (registration required) to experience local specialty bamboo crafts and matcha are prepared—including parent-child tea ceremony, bamboo knitting, tea scoop (chasaku) making, and the upper weaving of tea whisks—enabling participants to feel the deep connection between people and bamboo. A food court will also be set up for visitors to enjoy diverse gourmet foods. Free shuttle buses will operate to and from Kintetsu Gakken-Kita-Ikoma Station.
