About this event

At Taimadera Nakanobo in Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture, the grand wall paintings and painted ceiling by painter Yuji Murakami in the "Ryuyuden" will be specially opened to the public. On this occasion, you can view up close the grand wall painting "Ryuyuzu", depicting a giant dragon swimming leisurely between Mount Miwa and Mount Nijodake, created by Japanese-style painter Yuji Murakami. Ryuyuden is a masterwork boldly painted across three rooms, and its power and beauty are breathtaking. In addition, part of the "Shabutsu Dojo", decorated with ceiling paintings by renowned painters including Yuji Murakami, Atsushi Uemura, Koji Kinutani, and Chinami Nakajima, will also have a special public opening held once every four years. Taimadera Nakanobo is the oldest sub-temple of Taima-dera, also handed down as the training hall where Princess Chujo took tonsure. The garden "Koguen" on the grounds is counted among the Three Famous Gardens of Yamato, offering a valuable opportunity to experience history and art. In the latter half of November, this overlaps with the special unveiling of the sliding door paintings in the Daigojo of Okunoin and the special opening of the main hall of Sainando, making it the most rewarding time to tour the sub-temples of Taima-dera.
