About this event
At Komihato Shrine located in Yamazoe Village, the plague-dispelling deity Gozu Tenno has been enshrined since ancient times and revered as 'Hata no Tenno.' At the Tenno Festival held annually on the fourth Saturday of October at this shrine, the 'Tenno Lion Dance' (Tenno no Shishimai) is dedicated. Cherished as a traditional local performing art, this lion dance is the highlight of the festival. The main hall of Komihato Shrine is built in the five-bay nagare-zukuri style with a cypress bark roof and foundation stones, featuring design variations such as chidori-hafu and mukai-karahafu gables. The oldest ridge tag dates back to Genroku 4 (1691), and the hall is believed to have been erected during the Edo period (mid-17th century).
