Modern Japanese Painting Collection Exhibition

About this event

In conjunction with the special exhibition commemorating the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Tanabe City Museum of Art, "Kokei Kobayashi: Depicting History and Stories," modern Japanese paintings from the collection will be featured and exhibited. Tanabe City Museum of Art (Main Building) will hold "The Development of Modern Japanese Painting and Kokei Kobayashi," centered on works by Kokei Kobayashi and contemporary painters of his time. Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Museum of Art (Tanabe City Museum of Art Branch) will hold "Innovation in Nihonga Expression," introducing works by the generation of painters who opened up new forms of Nihonga expression after World War II. Introducing the masterpieces of modern Japanese painting centered on the collection of the Tanabe City Museum of Art, this exhibition allows visitors to experience its breadth from two perspectives: the development of modern Japanese painting and Kokei Kobayashi, and the innovation of Nihonga expression.
