About this event

A cherished autumn tradition of the World Heritage site Mount Koya, "Koyasan Autumn Leaves and Night Illuminations" will be held again in 2026, captivating many tourists each year. The approach roads around Danjo Garan and Okunoin, situated atop a 900-meter-high mountain, typically reach peak autumn foliage from late October to early November. After sunset, the area near the main gate of Kongobuji Temple and the Danjo Garan Jabara Path are illuminated, where vermilion pagodas and temple halls harmonize with the autumn leaves to create a solemn and magical atmosphere. It is an event where you can enjoy profound autumn scenery unique to the sacred site founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) with over a thousand years of history.
