The 19th (FY2026) Sakaiminato Yokai Certification Exam

About this event

The 19th Sakaiminato Yokai Certification Exam held in fiscal year 2026 is a test that assesses deep understanding of yokai (supernatural monster) culture. Three levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—are available, with questions based on different official textbooks. Beginner and Intermediate levels will be held at two locations: the Sakaiminato venue and the Chofu venue, though the Chofu venue has a capacity limit. The Advanced level will be held only at the Sakaiminato venue and is open only to those who have passed the Intermediate level. In the Beginner and Intermediate levels, questions will not cover original characters by Shigeru Mizuki or questions regarding Mr. and Mrs. Mizuki; questions will be drawn from 'Mizuki Shigeru Road All Yokai Picture Book' for Beginner and 'Definitive Edition Japan Yokai Encyclopedia: Yokai, The Other World, Gods' for Intermediate. In addition, approximately 3 local questions regarding Sakaiminato City and Chofu City will also be asked. Examination fees are 3,000 yen (tax included) each for Beginner and Intermediate, and 4,000 yen (tax included) for Advanced. The application period runs from Saturday, August 15, 2026, to Monday, August 31, 2026. Results are scheduled to be announced by examinee number on the official website on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
