Japanese name:石谷家住宅庭園 秋の特別公開
📅 Fri, Nov 13, 2026 - Mon, Nov 23, 2026
About this event
This is an autumn special public opening of the Ishitani Residence Garden, a Nationally Registered Monument (Place of Scenic Beauty). It is a valuable opportunity to stroll through the garden, where visitors are normally not allowed to enter. You can enjoy various highlights of the garden, including the pond stroll garden (chisen teien), a giant onigawara roof tile, and the back gate. In 2026 (Reiwa 8), the opening will be held for a total of 7 days: Period 1 from Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 15, and Period 2 from Friday, November 20 to Monday (national holiday), November 23. Opening hours are from 10:00 to 16:00 each day. At the back gate, accessible only during the special garden opening, you can enjoy the autumn foliage of the giant ginkgo tree and the Dodan-tsutsuji (Enkianthus perulatus), the town flower of Chizu Town. In addition, you can view the autumn leaves framed by Mt. Ushibuse and observe carp swimming while listening to the sound of the garden waterfall. The garden stroll fee is 200 yen, payable in cash on the day only (a separate admission fee to the residence is required). The event may be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Elementary school students and younger children are not permitted to stroll in the garden.
