Starting and finishing at the top of Mount Ichibata Yakushi, the '48th Ichibata Yakushi Marathon' is a demanding marathon rarely seen nationwide, involving ascending the 1,138 stone steps of Ichibata Yakushi. It offers a sense of achievement unmatched by other races. 10km and 5km divisions are available, and eligibility is open to healthy individuals aged 16 and older. The general entry fee is 4,000 yen, and 2,000 yen for high school students. Capacity is limited to 1,138 participants, and the application period runs from Saturday, August 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8) to Thursday, September 10, 2026 (Reiwa 8). Applications are accepted exclusively via the internet (RUNNET). On the day of the event, the opening ceremony will begin at 10:15 a.m., with race starts staggered by division starting at 11:00 a.m. Participants will receive a Mizuno sports towel as a participation gift. In addition, free Lake Shinji shijimi clam soup will be served, and bento lunch boxes will be provided for those who request them. Baggage storage service (paid) and concession stalls are also available. Kanpei Hazama is scheduled to appear as a special guest. Visitors can also enjoy sightseeing spots such as Ichibata Yakushi, Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, and Matsue Castle, as well as local specialties including ginger sugar sweets (shogato), Jurokushima nori seaweed, and Lake Shinji shijimi clams.
