Kami Mukae Shinji, Kamiari Sai, Enmusubi Taisai, and Karasade Sai Rituals

This is a series of Shinto rituals held during Kamiarizuki (the Month of the Gods) in the 10th month of the lunar calendar, when the myriad eight million deities from across the nation gather in the land of Izumo. First, on the 10th day of the 10th lunar month (November 18, 2026), the Kami Mukae Shinji / Kami Mukae Sai ritual to welcome the deities is performed at Inasa Beach, located about 1 km west of Izumo Oyashiro (Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine). In the evening, sacred fires are lit, and after the ritual is performed at the sacred site where himorogi (sacred tree branches) are arranged, the deities are transferred to Izumo Oyashiro. The Kamiari Sai is a 7-day period from the 11th to the 17th day of the 10th lunar month (November 19 to 25, 2026) during which divine deliberations (kamuhakari) regarding various life matters, particularly matchmaking between men and women, take place at Izumo Oyashiro and its auxiliary shrines such as Kamino-miya. During this period, festivals are also conducted at the Jukusha shrines located on both sides of the Main Sanctuary of Izumo Oyashiro. On the 15th and 17th days of the 10th lunar month during Kamiari Sai (November 23 and 25, 2026), the Enmusubi Taisai is conducted alongside the various matchmaking deliberations to pray to deities including Okuninushi-no-Okami for blessed ties and good fortune for the people, and attendance by the general public is permitted. Then, on the evening of the 17th day of the 10th lunar month (November 25, 2026), the day when the deities depart for their respective lands, the Karasade Sai is performed at the Haiden (Worship Hall) to see off the deities from Izumo Oyashiro. At Izumo Oyashiro, a minor ritual is also conducted on the 26th day of the lunar month to report the departure of the deities. These Shinto rituals are solemn ceremonies and differ from tourist events. Visitors are requested to participate with a quiet and respectful attitude so as not to disrupt the rituals.
