About this event
This is a traditional festival in Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture, held to celebrate the birthday of Kakinomoto no Hitomaro. It is also held as a festival to pray for abundant harvests and is enveloped in a lively atmosphere. During the festival period, food stalls line the 200-meter approach to Kakimoto Shrine, bustling with many visitors. In addition, dynamic Yabusame (horseback archery) rituals take place on a specially constructed riding course set up at the foot of Takatsuno Bridge along the nearby Takatsu River bed, captivating spectators. Iwami Kagura dances on the shrine grounds are dedicated and performed all day, allowing visitors to experience the local culture firsthand. Also known as one of Masuda City's three major festivals, this event steeped in history and tradition leaves a deep impression on all who visit.
