About this event

Conveying the medieval bustle from the prosperous days of the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine to the present, the traditional Oda City event 'Oda Autumn Equinox Fair (Chunichi-tsan)' has a history of nearly 400 years. Because it is held on the middle day of the equinox period (Chunichi) during the change of seasons, locals call it 'Chunichi-tsan,' and it has become an autumn tradition announcing the arrival of autumn in Oda. Around 200 street stall merchants gather from inside and outside Shimane Prefecture, enlivening the market greatly. Historically known among stall merchants as 'Takaichi,' it is such an important fair that it is scheduled alongside the annual festivals of Izumo Grand Shrine and Takeuchi Shrine in Matsue. Street stalls line the street stretching about 1 km from in front of Oda-shi Station, while Yosakoi dancing and street performances are showcased throughout the venue, drawing around 30,000 visitors in typical years. A plant fair is also scheduled to be held separately.
