Oidani Terraced Rice Fields (Autumn Illumination Event: Tatara no Hi)
Japanese name:追谷棚田(秋のライトアップイベント:たたらの灯)
📅 Sat, Sep 26, 2026 - Sat, Oct 24, 2026
About this event
This event illuminates the scenery of the Oidani Terraced Rice Fields on an autumn night—part of the agricultural systems recognized as Japanese Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems and Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, including 'Resource-cycling agriculture in Okuizumo originating from Tatara ironmaking' and 'Sustainable water management and agro-forestry-livestock systems in the Okuizumo region readapting Tatara ironmaking.' The terraced rice fields, said to originate from the kanna-nagashi technique of Tatara ironmaking, emerge three-dimensionally, softly, and warmly through the illumination. For the 2026 event, a food stall tent village (featuring Zen-chan Ramen, frankfurters, Okuizumo beef tendon curry, farm women's steamed glutinous rice, Shine Muscat crepes, and more) will appear on September 26, and from the evening, a free-to-watch SPECIAL LIVE by Toshio Suyama ('Su-san'), long beloved in the San'in region, will be held. Fireworks are also scheduled for the finale, allowing visitors to enjoy an autumn night along with songs, talk, and fireworks coloring the night sky.
