About this event

The "4th Eco-Geo Project in Otsuku Beach," held in Okinoshima Town, is a marine debris cleanup activity and community exchange event held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Daisen-Oki National Park's designation. Its purpose is to preserve and pass on the natural environment of Otsuku Beach, known as a conglomerate geological site, a habitat for dogtooth violets (katakuri), and a sanctuary for squid fishing. At the event, in addition to a collective cleanup of washed-ashore debris on the beach, parent-child mission challenges, marine life observation, octopus trap pulling & observation, and a turban shell (sazae) harvesting experience (limited to parents and children) will be carried out. After the activities, curry made with local ingredients, seasoned rice, shaved ice, drinks, and more will be served, fostering interaction among participants. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled, so please check the town broadcast on the day. Participants need to prepare clothes that can get dirty, work gloves, towels, hats, safe footwear, and shoes suitable for getting wet if wading into shallow water.
