About this event

'The Nomigirism 2026' held in Yakage Town, Okayama Prefecture, is an art project where 9 sculptors engage in open production across 4 facilities in Yakage Town as venues. This event expresses the work theme 'Za' (sitting/gathering), the production style 'Nomigiri' (chisel cutting), the 'Rhythm' born from it, and the 'Ism' that values communication. Marking its 3rd edition following 2022, artists ranging from young emerging creators including students to mid-career and veteran sculptors are invited to create stone sculpture works in the bustling town streets without using machine tools (except for basic rough processing). Visitors can not only observe the artists' production process up close, but also enjoy chisel-carving experiences and small-work exhibitions. The works created during this event will be exhibited in the 'Yakage Townscape Stone Tour' held at a later date (September 4 to 27, 2026). It is a two-week period to interact with artists and connect with stone art in the summer of Yakage, echoing with the rhythm of hand carving.
