Japanese name:奥津渓もみじ祭り
📅 Sat, Oct 31, 2026 - Sun, Nov 15, 2026
About this event
Held at the scenic Okutsu Gorge (Okutsukei) in Kagamino Town, Tomata District, Okayama Prefecture, the 'Okutsukei Autumn Foliage Festival' is an event held during the autumn foliage season. The beauty of the gorge, where the crystal-clear headwaters of the Yoshii River weave between eroded granite rocks, becomes especially breathtaking during the autumn foliage season. Japanese maples and other maples turn red and yellow, blending with the clear river stream and white rock surfaces to create a beautiful scenery unique to Okutsu Gorge. The typical viewing season is from late October to mid-November, featuring foliage such as momiji maples, kaede maples, mizunara oak, and ginkgo. Illumination is also conducted during the festival period, allowing visitors to enjoy magical autumn leaves at night. In addition, the pothole group formed over many years by rocks rotating in the river current and carving into the riverbed rock is a must-see highlight. The area around Otsuri Bridge is also a popular viewing spot where you can gaze upon a combination of the bridge, mountain stream, and mountain foliage.
