About this event

Marking its 22nd edition, "Takehara Shokei no Michi: Bamboo Lanterns of the Historic Townscape" is a magical bamboo lantern event set against the atmospheric Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Soft candlelight glowing from approximately 5,000 bamboo cylinders gently illuminates the historic streets that retain the ambiance of the Edo period. At this event, visitors can enjoy "Machikado Light Art," which illuminates traditional buildings, and the "Townscape Art Gallery," displaying creations crafted from bamboo across various themes. Additionally, an Instagram photo contest and live events at various facilities are held, offering visitors a special evening. Strolling through historic streets enveloped in the warm light of bamboo, the symbol of Takehara City, creates a memorable moment truly worthy of the name "Shokei" (longing / yearning).
