About this event

Ube City Cultural Center will reopen on August 29, 2026, following the completion of additional renovation work. An opening ceremony and related events will be held starting on the same day. In the renewed Cultural Center, the opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 29 from 9:45 in the 3rd floor Culture Hall, featuring celebratory dance and the nagauta piece "Matsu no Midori" by Hanayagi-ryu Tsuyujikai, as well as a commemorative performance by the Ube Civic Orchestra. In addition, from Saturday, August 29 to Sunday, September 13, the Ryoji Baba Exhibition will be held in the 1st floor Exhibition Room, featuring special exhibits such as the Byodoin Decorative Restoration Exhibition and materials/art supplies from cultural property research. A gallery talk by Ryoji Baba will also take place on Saturday, August 29 from 11:00 with free admission. In the 2nd floor Training Hall, from Saturday, August 29 to Sunday, August 30, the Ube Cultural Federation Exhibition will be held showcasing diverse works such as flower arrangement (kado), calligraphy (shodo), and pottery, also with free admission. Furthermore, on Saturday, August 29 from 10:30 to 15:00, a complimentary matcha tea service hosted by the Ube Chapter of the Urasenke Tankokai Tea Ceremony Association will be held in the 2nd floor Training Room for the first 400 people, where visitors can enjoy matcha green tea and sweets. On the same day starting at 11:30 in the 3rd floor Culture Hall, a commemorative lecture themed on Ube's culture and Sukesaku Watanabe titled "Ube's Culture and Sukesaku Watanabe: Talk and the Legendary Piano" will be held, featuring a talk by Hiroshi Watanabe and a performance by Yuki Tanaka. In the renovated 2nd floor lobby, paintings owned by Ube City will be permanently exhibited in the "Lobby Gallery," with the initial exhibition featuring works by Shinkawa Nishino, a painter from Ube City. Viewing is free.
