FY2026 Special Exhibition 'Yamaguchi Insect Discovery Squad'

In addition to displays of insect specimens from Yamaguchi Prefecture, this exhibition allows everyone from children to adults to enjoy learning about the lives and surprising ecology of insects through illustrations and hands-on content. It shines a spotlight on insects that are familiar yet surprisingly little-known, introducing species unique to the prefecture and insects deeply tied to local culture. Exhibition highlights include the 'Familiar & Curious Insect Ranking' introducing the top 30 species most inquired about by the general public, 'Let's Go Insect Hunting'—a parent-child insect-finding project using a creature observation app, 'Insects of Yamaguchi Prefecture' featuring insects rooted in local culture on a weekly basis as original hands-on content by the Yamaguchi Museum, and the 'Play with Insects! Hands-on Corner' where visitors can enjoy a Chestnut Tiger butterfly photo spot and an interactive attraction where drawings made by visitors are projected on the wall and come to life. The museum shop will sell Yamaguchi Museum original mobiles, craft kits, and more. Related events, such as a nighttime illumination experience and gallery talks by guest lecturers, will also be held.
