The 'Yang Guifei Fire Festival' was started in 2011 (Heisei 23) by Nagato City's regional revitalization NPO 'Future Nagato' to revive the traditional cultural performing art of 'Yang Guifei Fire Walking' and make it an accessible festival for people both inside and outside the region. In the highlight of the event, the fire walking, yamabushi (mountain ascetics) engage in the Yang Guifei dialogue and pass through the flames as a scaffold covered in cypress leaves burns roaringly. The sight of smoke carrying the energy of great nature swirling and enveloping the venue together with the power of heaven and earth is truly spectacular. Guided by leading yamabushi, visitors can also participate in the fire walking. Forming a connection with Yang Guifei, a symbol of beauty and wisdom, will surely bring divine blessings. In addition, when you write your wishes on an amulet slip and cast it into the flames, it is said that the wish ascends into heaven and reaches Yang Guifei. Wishing slips also come with the perk of participating in the subsequent rock-paper-scissors tournament.
