Shishikui Hachiman Shrine Festival
Japanese name:宍喰八幡神社祭り
📅 Sat, Sep 26, 2026 - Sun, Sep 27, 2026
About this event
This is a traditional autumn festival that has been passed down through generations at Shishikui Hachiman Shrine, situated in the Shishikui area of Kaiyo Town at the southernmost tip of Tokushima Prefecture. In 2026, it will be held over two days on September 26 and 27. On the first day's Yoimiya (eve festival), night stalls will open, and there will be illuminations of Sekibune boats, Danjiri floats, and bamboo lanterns. During the Honmiya (main festival), the annual ritual ceremony will be conducted, along with processions of the Sekibune boats and Danjiri floats. Characteristic of a coastal village overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the atmosphere on the shrine grounds—where the scent of the sea breeze mingles with festival music—has a warmth distinct from large-scale urban festivals. It is a family-friendly festival where one can feel strong community bonds.
