Takamatsu Art Museum Special Exhibition "Moving! Exhibition: Art of Light, Sound, and Motion"

About this event

Focusing on the emergence of new expressions in post-WWII Japanese art that broke free from traditional genres such as painting and sculpture, as well as changes in artists' production methods and activity venues, this exhibition looks back at the history and development of contemporary art with "movement" as the keyword. Centering on the collection that Takamatsu Art Museum has accumulated since opening in 1988, it introduces the process from the era when avant-garde art groups such as "Jikken Kobo" and "Gutai Art Association", as well as artists from "Fluxus" and "Hi-Red Center", expanded the scope of expression through performances and events, to the establishment of installations combining light, sound, and video along with technological advancements, as well as spectator-participatory "moving" works. This is an exhibition where visitors can experience artists' relentless new challenges through "moving" artworks.
