The opening commemorative ceremony for Marugame Civic Hall (nicknamed THEATRE MAdo), newly opening in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026. At the ceremony, following opening remarks by the organizer and congratulatory addresses by guests, Japanese classical dancer Hirokazu Taniguchi will perform 'Sanbaso.' This piece is a traditional dance praying for peace across the realm and bountiful grain harvests; Taniguchi, who served as choreography supervisor for the movie 'Kokuho' (released in 2025), will perform alongside approximately 10 musicians (taiko drums, flutes, shamisen, vocals, etc.) who appeared in the film. Through this prestigious performance, the new theater aims to become a place that inherits local culture and connects it to the future. The ceremony will be held by inviting 1,000 attendees, comprising related parties and the general public selected by application, with applications opening sequentially starting June 1, 2026. Admission is free, and seating is entirely unreserved. Marugame City hopes that this commemorative ceremony will share the appeal of traditional culture and establish the theater as a beloved venue for citizens.
